If you love accuracy for your AR-15 then you will love by Black Hills Ammunition! So what’s the difference between the new Black Hills 77 gr TMK comparing to original Mk262/77 gr SMK? The huge deal is that BC (Ballistic Coefficient) has jumped from 0.373 of to a whopping 0.420 with the new Sierra Tipped MatchKing projectile. While the original Mk262/77gr SMK’s BC is very close to that of the 147-150 gr 7.62x51mm’s ballistic performance, the new polymer tip bullet of Black Hills 77 gr TMK gives it the long range performance near the heavier 168 gr .308 caliber bullet.
MatchKing bullets have very thin jackets and are held to exacting tolerances in diameter and weight. Their accuracy has been acclaimed worldwide and they have been used to win more target competitions than all target bullets from other manufacturers combined. Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip, thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms. This ammunition is new production, in non-corrosive, in boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases.
Black Hills founder Jeff Hoffman’s goal was to develop the most accurate possible 5.56 cartridge. This is the fruit of his labor. Each 5.56x45 MK262 Mod 1-C is loaded with a Sierra open tip match. The OTM’s essentially perfect jacket concentricity and form-fitted lead core supply it with outstanding rotational stability, and its heavy 77 grain weight and sleek profile enable it to conserve superior downrange momentum. Unlike a typical MatchKing, this round’s OTM has a cannelure to prevent the bullet from shifting out of its seating depth while the cartridge is jerked by recoil in the magazine.
Black Hills has high standards for their 5.56x45 ammunition. Before it is packaged, the lot it came from must demonstrate that it can land sub 2” groups at 300 yards – a 0.64 MOA maximum! Black Hills’ premium reloadable brass cases, match Boxer primers and uniform propellant charges all contribute to the bullets’ truly impressive accuracy. This is the ultimate way to see just what your 5.56 rifle can do!
Black Hills produces factory new ammunition equal to some of the best handloads and is quickly becoming one of most popular manufacturers of ammunition. Used primarily by all branches of the United State military, this ammunition is also used by competitive shooters and hunters. This 5.56 load was developed for AR-15 platform firearms.
MatchKing rifle bullets are super-accurate bullets with very thin jackets and are held to exacting tolerances in diameter and weight. Their accuracy has been acclaimed worldwide and they have been used to win more target competitions than all target bullets from other manufacturers combined. Each bullet is designed with a very small meplat in order to achieve the highest ballistic coefficient possible. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.
Please Note: While the 5.56x45mm will fit in a .223 Remington chamber, the 5.56 is a military round that runs at higher pressures than its .223 counterpart and is not recommended to be fired in a .223 Remington chamber.
